Serves 3 to 4
2 cups fresh green shelled fava beans (they don't really need their seed coats removed, just the pods)
1/4 cup red lentils
1/4 onion, chopped
2 large cloves garlic, chopped
1 to 3 teaspoons curry powder, to taste
1/2 to 1 teaspoon salt, to taste
1/2 bay leaf
1/2 cup beer
1 cup chopped frozen (or fresh) yellow feet
1 cup chopped zucchini (the nice big ones are sweetest) (or other veggie in season)
1/2 cup sausage, hamburger or chopped chicken (optional)
1 cup yogurt
Put the favas and lentils into a saucepan, and add enough water to just cover the favas. Bring to a boil, turn down and simmer. Add the onion, garlic, the smaller amounts of curry and salt, and the bay. Put a lid on the pot, and turn the heat down a little more, and keep the curry at a simmer for 20 minutes. Add the beer, mushrooms zucchini, and meat. Simmer 10 to 15 minutes, until the meat and zucchini are done. Taste and adjust seasonings. Serve topped with yogurt.
